Relay For Life is a festive event, for all ages, focusing on solidarity and fund-raising for the fight against cancer. During 24 hours, the community players of a city, town or locality mobilise themselves in order to:

  • To celebrate and pay tribute to the people who have conquered cancer, and support those who are still fighting the disease;
  • To remember the people who have lost their fight against cancer and to support   those who are still fighting the disease ;
  • To stand united in the fight against cancer.

Sponsored teams relay for 24 hours. At least one member of the team must be present on the track at all times.

The 24 hours is a symbolic gesture of the constant battle patients and their families  must endure in the fight against the disease. Relay For Life is not a competition! But a gathering of community united in the fight against cancer.

Relay For Life is a local event. The Organizing Committee consists exclusively of local volunteers. The Foundation against Cancer is the initiator of the project, and supports the committee in its setting-up of the event. The Organizing Committee promotes the event, seeks sponsors and teams, and organizes supporting events before and during the Relay For Life.

The city, town or locality also helps with the organization, by providing premises, financial support or logistical equipment for the event.
